I have a 2006 Tahoe Z-71 that has the Bose stereo without a navigation system. The stereo sound pretty great with a CD, however, even with 6 CD's to load, I LOVE music and wanted to have my IPOD hooked up. Initially, I bought one of those accessories where you can scan for an empty FM station and it broadcasts through it. It hooked to the power accessory and charged it at the same time, however the signal was SO weak, that it really sounded terrible. Earlier this week, I had a FM modulator hardwired where they ran it to the FM antenna. This made it sound MUCH better, however, I really want MORE volume and punch. I really do not want to alter the system too much in case I decide to see it eventually. I was wondering if anyone has put an amp in the Bose system? IF so, what kind and what did it run? I would most likely have it done professionally so that it is looks great. The guy that put it in told me about a system that would work with the Bose where the steering wheel controls would still work, he would replace all of the speakers and put an amp in for about $1600. This is a little steep right now.

Thanks for ANY suggestions!

There are several interfaces you can add to your stock GM stereo so that you can charge and control your Ipod with a direct audio signal into the stereo w/o any signal degradation like an FM mod. Peripheral Isimple is one interface for example.
If you would like a little more volume and clarity to the system overall w/o spending a lot of money, you can have a 4 channel amp added and a set of decent speakers for well under $1600, all while keeping the integrity of the stock system intact. You could even just have a 2 channel amp and a set of better speakers for the front installed, and keep the stock Bose amp powering the stock sub and rear speakers. This would be even cheaper and still add more volume and clarity.

So, is there a direct wire setup (not FM transmited) that you can hook up your ipod to a bose system without eliminating the CD changer?
