My 99 tahoe was giving me a problem yesterday morning not starting. I replaced the fuel filter and it started right up. Now this morning it won't start again and I'm getting fuel and I have spark but when I crank it, it sounds like it wants to start but doesn't. PLEASE HELP

Sounds of it, sounds like a starter. On these since they are so high in the air (unless you lowered it) they are really easy to do. Be less than 100 and bout 30mins to 1 hour. Depends on how many beers

Also just for ****s and giggles check the battery terminals. They could be stripped and your not getting a good connection. You wont have enough power to turn it over.

you said when it didnt start it cranked ? if so did it crank slowly ? if its cranking fine you'll need to check fuel pressure. pump might be on the way out.

I think it's my cap and one of my wires looks like it's arched....so I'm getting all new wires and plugs...basic tune up and see what happens. The starter to me seems fine. Keep you posted. I hope doing this will work.

I've also changed the fuel pump not even 4 months back....sucked that it had to go with a full tank of gas in her.

Roll down the window, turn the ignition, do you hear the starter prime?

Yeah the fuel pump is priming and everything. I don't understand. I just installed all new distrib, cap, plugs, wires. I also put dry gas in the tank in case of water. I got it started after all this but shut it off and tried starting again and nothing. This is by far the weirdest thing that ever happened to me with a vehicle. The fuel is definately getting to the motor.

Ok, back to basics.

Spark, Fuel, Air.... Check each one.

Check each plug for spark.
Use a pressure gauge and check for pressure at the fuel rail.
Remove the airfilter, put your hand over the intake, feel a vacuum?

If all that's right, your distributor might be out of alignment.

yup got vacume, everything is where it's supposed to be. The distributor is good. I got it to start but tommorow I'll be standing in the same spot I'm at now. I think I'm getting a lot of back pressure though from the exhaust. What do you think...I know thats hard on the motor but would that cause that to not start??

alright this is what it does when I try to start it when I have the problem. When I crank it over the starter is turning and then the motor will sound like it wants to start by spuddering and then it won't start

well for your sake i hope its just a sensor or something after having just replaced the fuel pump i would look into the fuel pressure regulator sometimes it can act funky and either flood it or not send any gas to the engine but it def sounds gas orientated

do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge? you need to make sure the pressure is within specs. if thats ok, then move onto the spark, make sure the cap is on tight, if loose it will act like a misfire. you mentioned exhaust backpressure, if you want to check it, remove an upstream O2 sensor, this will alow exhaust to come out of the o2 hole, if it starts, possible bad/blocked converter.

Does $58 sound right for a fuel pressure regulator? I mean is that a decent price or am I getting ripped off?

I just did a quick look-up on partsamerica.com for a new FPR, and they ranged from $49 to $82. Napa wants $74 to $80. $58 sounds reasonable.

You said you are getting fuel so why do you keep checking everything fuel related. Sounds to me like your starter
