Heya gang,
Just a quick hello. I've been on the CK series listserv for ages, and on FSC for 3 years, and just stumbled across this forum.

1997 2DR, 2WD hoe purchased new in '97
7/7 or 7/8 static drop
140k miles, over 100k of it lowered

I couldn't figure out how to get a pic into my sig--I tried the field for entering the URL of an externally-hosted pic, but it said "invalid URL" when I previewed it. I tried to cheat by using IMG tags in the text part of my sig but all I got was the URL. Ah well.

Thanks, 95!

Here are a few pix taken before and after I just lowered it a bit more (almost 2" more in front, 3/4" rear).

Before--I drove it at this height for 9 years:

After--dropped it a bit more on July 4 (my independence from excess altitude day :D)

The truck looks real sharp with the mods and paint and all, but why so low anyway? You wouldn't even be able to drive down a bumpy road without scuffing up your front pumper.

Thanks, General.

It's about as low as you'd want to go static, but it's nowhere near LOW compared to the bagged and body-dropped trucks out there that are laying frame and rocker on the ground when aired down. My dad's '88 shortbed is just bagged and it's sitting about 13" lower than stock. No cutting the fenders or bed out. So my 7" drop is very mild by comparison.

As for why? I like the looks. I like the handling. Yes, you have to be careful at times, but that's true to varying degrees with any kind of car and truck, lowered (bumps, dips), lifted (turns), or even stock (not a good idea to bonzai through dips & driveways like I see some people do).

Looks great! It's good to have another GMT 400 Tahoe owner on the board. Welcome to the forum!

I'm loving everything about your Tahoe. How do you like the Street Scene lower valence? I've really been thinking about putting one of my Tahoe Limited.

Heh, thanks. The website is pretty old, and a few things have changed more than once but it gets you in the ballpark.

Cola, the valance is cool, surprisingly durable. The only thing is that it bolts to the bumper in a couple places, but the gap is held tight with double-sided foam tape and I think it lasted maybe a year or two before the valance separated from the bumper. But I just left it that way because it really isn't noticeable unless you're looking closely or know what to look for.

The only drawbacks I've had were when it was only about a 5/6 drop, and a few times I went too far past the parking bumper, and couldn't back up because it got hung up on the backside. Going forward is easy because the valance slopes rearward. But once over, it grabs on. I got it stuck the worst on a small concrete curb that formed the edge of a planter in a parking lot. The parking bumpers aren't as bad because at least they're usually angled a little bit toward the top, but the curb was 90 degrees on front and back, and it really hooked on. I had to stuff a cheap flat toolbox under one front wheel and something else under the other, before backing up, to get the valance up enough to clear... :eek2: If you can be smart and always stop short of anything like that, you'll be fine. I only did that about 4 times in the past 9 years. But now I think I'd just crunch the valance if I went too far, so I have to be extra careful.

The only other consideration is that I've been told that they now have an embossed StreetScene logo (the circular one with "SS" in it) in the driver side corner, and that it's kinda obnoxious looking. The person who told me about it was on the FSC forum--he bought one after digging on mine, and couldn't believe that put that fugly logo in them now. He got some urethane body filler and smoothed it over before painting it.

Hmm. ya your hoe is pretty sick man. Theres not to many lowered one on here, and i think they look badass either way you have em (lifted or lowered). Mines lowered a little bit, not drastic right now.. Im saving up for well gas, sound system, rims, and a drop kit, in the future "bags", but for now jsut like a 6/6 or something like that.. but anywho, nice hoe.. did you keep your holes for the roof rack or did u weld em out?? Any interior mods?

I bought them through Stylin but I found out after that I could have gotten them cheaper at CK Resto. I paid more for the 4-pack through Stylin than CK Resto charges for the 6-pack. I could have saved $ and got a couple extras just in case.:ktoe:

Interior is stock, at least in appearance. The stereo system is well hidden. One sub is visible but the grille is covered in matching material, and the other is in a JL Stealthbox in the center console. The amp is hidden away inside the rear passenger side panel, along with a fan that I put into the bottom of the cup holder to draw heat out. I put a switch in the ashtray so I can turn off the fan when I don't need it. It is switched by a relay connected to the amp, but I really only use it when it's hot outside and/or I'm driving the stereo hard.
