Hey Guys,

I just joined the forum. I have a 1999 Tahoe. So far it has a Gibson Sideswept Exhaust, K&N Air Filter System, New Alternator, New Fuel Pump, New Tires, New Water Pump, a Performance Chip and overall just a nice rig. I bought it from my parents. Im seventeen.

But the only problem is that the guages tick and vibrate like crazy. The fuel guage looks like its on drugs. It just vibrates back and forth about a quarter of an inch. So I always have to watch my mileage odometer to see how much gas I have based off of its 17mpg -ish. It does it when I am just at idle and in park. It does it all the time. And for some reason the battery guage ticks back and forth when I use the left turn signal.

What the hell is wrong with them ha. Does anyone have any suggestions or weird fix its? Cuz I have no idea :) Thanks!

fuel gauge-i have seen this a couple times actually. i was told it is due to a loose/corroded ground on the sending unit? not positive.
alt. gause-mine used to do the same thing, i replaced my weak battery and it has not done it since.

Hm. My battery is practically brand new. Same with the alternator. But I guess that would make sense. Because the alternator died and it was running off the battery. That makes sense. Thanks

As for the fuel guage. Where is the sending unit? Just on top of the fuel tank? I use to have a bronco and it did the same thing. And I just jiggled the wires around and it would work for a while, then stop. Seem right?

ya. the sending unit is on top of the tank. i never had one to have to fix, but i was told by a guy who had the problem that it was a corroded ground wire for the sending unit.
since you sya you jiggled the wires and it stopped, that would make sense as the problem.

as far as the battery, it could be other things that im not think of, but i tested my battery, and it had somewhere around 250-300 CCA, with the gauge fluctuating all the time. i replaced it with a new Bosch battery and it hasnt moved since.

Ha okay thanks. Any idea how to replace the corroded wire? Cuz I dont feel like getting out and shaking my wires every other day to be able to tell how much gas I have.

find the wire, not sure which one exactly (sorry), find how its grounded, and wire brush it and put it back on. or if need be, cut the wire (if its a single seperate wire) and crimp a new connector somewhere else. just has to be clean ad tight.
itll just be a corroded connector, not whole wire.
