well,need a little advice,my hoe now has 215000 miles on it and i know won't last forever.should i have engine and transmission rebuilt or replace with reman units?if you think reman wheres a good place to get them?i don't want to spend a fortune but i love my hoe!and can't imagine getting rid of it.one other option i thought a new shortblock and have heads redone and transmission rebuild.thanks for you input.i need to save my pennies for this

I would imagine that remanufactured parts wouldn't cost any less than rebuilding stock parts. Look for engine/speed shops in your area and get some quotes. What's your budget? Can you do your own wrenching? Buying a new shotblock and all that would be an expensive route. New parts are always expensive. Rebuilds are very worthwhile, especially if you can do most of the work yourself. Then you are mostly just paying for parts.

the good news is, as im sure you know, that parts for the 5.7 vortec and the 4l60e are among the easiest to come by and are relatively inexpensive. I've looked at crate engines online, they go for around 1500 to 2000. I had the tranny replaced in my 96 deville a few years ago and that ran me 2500. That was the 4T60 though, it's a little more advanced. Just to give you an idea of maximum prices

where you find crate motor for that price?i called a local salvage yard to look for used low mileage motor had only one for my tahoe it had 134000 miles and they wanted 1000 bucks for it!

if it is cheaper i'd rather have a reman motor,does not have to be a gm one.
