Hi everyone, new guy here. I'm a former master Jaguar technician turned Emergency RN. I had a 2003 Avalanche and loved it, but sold it when I changed careers.

Fast forward to the present...I'm looking to get out of my 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and into an older Tahoe/Yukon, or even a Suburban.

I'm looking at a 2000 GMC Yukon tomorrow with 140K miles. 2 owners, serviced regularly, 4.8L engine. I don't think it has a tow hitch, so I;m not concerned about it being abused with regard to towing.

Question is: What are some vehicle specific problem areas to be aware of?

Thanks in advance!!! :happy160:

One thing to be aware of is that with the short wheelbase the towing will not feel the best unless you are towing something smaller. If do get up there in weight, like a dual axle trailer and a vehicle on it that is not too large then make sure you have a weight distribution hitch and anti sway control. Make sure the engine cooling system is in great shape and make sure the trans is too with a clean trans cooler. So if you do ever add a hitch those would be what to prep with.

Can get some noises from the serp belt/tensioner pulley/idler pulley area with age. Use new Goodyear Gatorback belts for replacement and AC Delco tensioner/idler assemblies.

Go thru the many threads here for a lot of answers to your questions. By the way, I own an 02 cladded AVY myself and am looking to buy an older 2 door Tahoe when I find just the right one. Good Luck!

Not so concerned about towing, my drag racing days are in the past ;). I used to tow with my Avalanche, but got out of drag racing.
