I just filled up yesterday. It seems that no gas was taken cause it still show full but could someone have added something? The wondering is going to kill me,I can't get back to sleep.:mad2:

Of course there is a small chance that I coud have, but I HIGHLY doubt it. Anyway I would not have left it dangling alongside the truck with the fuel door open, besides,my brother in law or one of my buds would have seen it on the way out last night, it had to happen sometime after 11 last night.

Newer vehicles have a doo-dad that stops would-be theives from stealing gas. I know cause I was trying to theive from myself for the lawnmower. Anyway, if you don't see residue around the filler neck, I would say you are probably fine. I might throw an additive in there just to be safe and go get your locking gas cap. Just be thankful you don't have the 'brains' in your area like I do around here. They actually drill a hole in the bottom of the tank.

Before I read that I was already going to comment that locking your gas tank will just make them drill a hole in your tank. You get more damage than them just stealing your gas.

I would have to say that someone opened the cap late last night because with newer cars two things would have happened if you were to leave the gas cap off at the pump.

1. you would of got a check engine light

2, some cars need the pressure from the tank to let/keep the car running. If the caps not on, theres no pressure in the tank.

If thats the case then hope that somone tried to steal your gas, got spooked and ran away after they opened the cap and they didn't put suger in your tank.

actually it can take a couple days for the CEL to come on....the evap self test is one of the slowest

I know of NO car that requires tank pressure to stay running

sugar doesnt do anything to the gas anyways. (im a mythbuster watcher). the only real thing they found out that is bad for your engine and gas tank, is Bleach. Bleach is known to make metal rust, and rusting inside a gas tank is pretty bad. They tried mothballs, which actually helped the engine performance (mothballs increased the octane in the gas and made the motor run stronger) (wouldnt suggest trying it tho) lol... sugar jsut sits in the bottom of the tank, im sure if it gets sucked right up in the lines, then ya, but i think youd see some sugar around the door and everything. i forget what else they put in the tanks, but idk what id do in a situation like that.. Using a locking gas cap tho will help somewhat, not everyone will carry around a drill rather then a clear hose..

Yup,, sugar in the tank will get picked up by the pump clogging the system leading to a costly repair of dropping the gas tank and cleaning it out.

Eventually it will lead to it.. just hope that its not bleach in your tank.. then youll be buying a new tank, all new lines, and god knows what in the front.. but if you have a plastic tank, well idk what youd need for that

A big part of me wants to agree with GMTech and think that maybe you left it off since you did fill it yesterday; do you walk past the front or back of the car when you park? You said your people would see it but I can't count how many times people have walked right past the obvious just because they weren't looking for it. But then anything is possible: If the gas station is close to your house you could've been followed from it. Maybe they did take some, 2-5 gallons you might not see a diiference on the gauge, especially if it's topped off; or maybe they couldn't get to it. Agree that you should look closely for evidence of tampering, but I think if you were going to poison someones tank, wouldn't you put the cap back on so they don't get a clue? At any rate, the only caps I looked at were like billet from AMI which looked pretty good, but I'd want to paint it to match because I don't think these Tahoes look good with a big aluminum circle slapped on the side of it. And I suppose there are plenty of locking caps themselves, try Stant or others like that?

Is there any way to confirm whether or not you have an anti-siphoning system without actually trying to siphon the tank? Is there any documentation anywhere?

A couple years ago these people were trying to push this pellet that you put in your tank, they claimed all kinds of power and double mileage, etc. It was run by Multi-Level Marketing, too. Anyway, I don't remember the name of it or the chemical that I found out was in it, but turns out it was the same chemical that was in mothballs. If I remember right the research I found, most said it had no benefit, some said it helped a little with the octane, and most said that prolonged use would cause damage either to the fuel system or the engine itself, due to dirty residues either raw or burned. I remember this old Chinese couple, who I thought were two of the dumbest people I ever met, were so excited about getting rich from this new wonder pellet. Well, a year later he died in jail (from some other scam he was into), and when she came out of the looney bin she was penniless. Sad but true. Anyway, the only thing I would ever consider adding to my tank is probably Techron. Sorry to jack the thread, this is just my way of bumping it.
