New guy to the scene of Chev's...

Like the title says i just bought another driver/tow vehicle.

I have a question about the 4x4 button,

when you push the 4x4 hi button the light just blinks and never goes solid.

What could be some of the causes?

Thanks in advance
:)

Mine did that a couple of years ago. It turned out to be a stuck front differential actuator. It engages the front diff when you put it into 4wd. Very easy to change the actuator. Unplug it, unscrew the old one then screw the new one in and plug it back in.

You can take the actuator off and test it to see if it works.

Cool, would you know how to test it?

Can it just be put on the bench and add power and ground?
Do you have the test procedure? With wire colors that you add power and ground too?

I can't see them being much money, are the aftermarket one just the same as GM parts or we better off using OEM?

This can also be caused by the switch. I had to replace mine not long ago.

With the key on, toggle the the 4wd switch and listen for the transfer case motor to engage (you may have to have a friend do it while you lay on the ground). If the servo motor operates then it could be the actuator or the switch on the transfer case.

If it turns out to be the actuator and you are going to replace it, take a look at TSB 76-43-01A. If you have the thermal actuator it is a good idea to follow that TSB to replace it with a motor type actuator. I didn't notice where you are located but the thermal actuator takes longer to engage as the temperature drops (just when you need it most).
