I have a 2008 Chevy Tahoe and after getting some work done on the truck that required a new headliner (one of the 2nd row vents seemed clogged) I noticed that at times when I return to the truck the fan on the inside is running, the AC compressor is not on, just the fans (front and back). My dealership (who performed the work) said that this is normal to keep the condenser coils dry to prevent the truck from getting a mildew smell in it.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior? I am pretty sure it did not do this prior to the truck being serviced. I would take it to another dealership to be checked out but I thought that just maybe it is possible that the truck was supposed to be doing this from day one and now it is fixed as opposed to being broken now.

I should also say that it does not appear to do this when I turn the AC off before leaving the truck but that is a limited observation since I hardly turn the AC off before leaving the truck (wife does this for reasons only my wife could understand).

That would make sense to me that it is functioning correctly now. By habit, I turn off the AC before ending my trip and turning off the engine to prevent the very issue you mentioned, the mildew.

The best scenario to find out what happens when this is not prevented is to get into a rental car. These vehicles will almost always stink and it's due to the AC issue.

I noticed a fan running when I shut off the truck, but leave it in "accessory" for the radio.
