I just bought an 02' Tahoe and took it to the shop and they said that the hub bearings need replacing. My question is what kind of time frame do i have untill this needs attention? And also what are the effects of driving with worn bearings besides the noise?? Thanks for any response,

Bryan

You'd probably want those fixed as soon as possible. I think bad bearings can result the hub to lock up overtime, resulting in the wheel not being able to turn. I guess that's hurting your gas mileage too. And the longer you wait, the harder it is to replace them. My sister had her bearings replaced in her '94 BMW and it took 7 hours because they were so hard to get out.

There are no hubs on these trucks but I'm sure you need to replace the wheel bearing assembly which is a common issue on 1/2tons. The part runs $300+/ea from napa (ac delco parts with less markup) and are fairly easy to install. The wheel bearing is the entire assembly on the steering knuckle, unit bearings are a common issue for all the GM/Ford/Dodge trucks.

I replaced my wheel bearing assembly with the Napa part for my 2002 Tahoe. The part cost me around $140 bucks and it was a breeze to install yourself if your somewhat handy.

On my 2WD, I was able to remove the "do not remove" part and filled it with grease and clean my speed sensors and they roll fine and no more abs shimmy when I stop at a stop sign. Easy to remove and replace on 2WD that is.....
