You can get a tool that will slide into the end and releases the metal quick release clip that holds the filter. Check your local auto parts store for the tool.

thanks, i just bought it 3000 miles ago dont know if its ever been changed and it got 90000 miles on it, getting 13.5 mpg freeway miles, soon ill do the spark plugs and wires

just changed it took it for a test drive and ran a lot better, was kinda worried at first as it didnt want to start and then it did then it didnt want to stay on sounded like it was gonna die but it didnt then put it in drive and it wanted to die again, took it on the streets and drove so much better, i dont know what the retard owner was thinking not changing his filter still had the stock ac delco filter in it and put almost 100,000 on the same one, i change mine every year about 15,000 -miles. im gonna cut it open in a few days and see how bad it is inside. and this one didnt have the clips, just used cresent wrenches. guessing this was one of those small differences between tahoes and yukons
