So at last the yukon got it's first set of HIR bulbs. What is HIR you may ask? well it's basically the poor mans HID. I've had silverstars in the past in both my jeep and the yukon and they seemed ok, just wasn't impressed with the longevity, and were just plain bad in the rain. So, I bought some for the jeep a year or two ago and was impressed right away. here are some figures

silverstars:
low beam 9006= 1000 lumens
high beam 9005= 1700 lumens

HIR's:
low beam 9011= 1875 lumens
high beam 9012= 2500 lumens

Big difference in lumens and also the HIR's are much better in the rain. The silverstars aren't known for longevity and thats just not something I was willing to live with. Now the HIR's are much more expensive, at about 24 to 26 a bulb.Worth it in my opinion and many other people will tell you the same. You could just go the HID route which a lot of people will do, but if you are in the market for a better bulb this is the way to go in my opinion.

That certainly looks interesting for people who want to continue to use halogen bulbs...but at $25 a pop, you're looking at about $110 to retrofit your highs and lows.

Personally, I'd rather just go to higher level auto and order an HID kit for $40 more. Thats just me though, and those bulbs do look pretty interesting.

I doubt anybody in here had even heard of them, but I could be wrong. HID's are more popular with these vehicles and have more kits available, not to mention brighter. They are more popular in other forums around the net. But for those that are buying the silverstar ultras, you might as well change over to these. Just a little more than what you would be paying for them and get greater performance. and they will last! just my .02

So here are a few pics. the first one is of the HIR low beam, the second is of the silverstar ultra high beam and finally the last is of the HIR high beam. Unfortunately the pictures don't show exactly how much brighter the HIR's are compared to the silverstars. but you get an idea nevertheless. All pictures were taken within 15minutes, all at the same distance of about 30-35 feet to the shop door. I failed to get a before pic of the silverstar ultra low beam, but it gets eclipsed by the current pic. anywho I'll post some more to keep this thread alive.. lol :brsh1: :rolleyes2:

http://finemotoring.com you can go there to check out more facts about it and you can also email the guy if you are interested. HID's seem to be more popular with most hoe owners, but to each their own.
