I want to put HID's back in my 2000 Tahoe but I'm sick of only one turning on when I start the truck! Then I gotta flash from my highs back to lows to get them both to turn on! And some times it takes awhile! I have tried to ground each balest to the truck plus I've upgraded the batt to a red top! Still had the problem! Has anyone had this issue and found a fix if so PLEASE help a guy out!
Thanks,
~fatjoe~

you might want to try running a relay. grab the 12v wire from the headlight that works all the time and connect a 30/40 amp automotive relay. so youll use the headlight turn on wire to the input of the relay and the 12v on wires of both ballasts to the output of the relay. you can get the relay from like circuit city or best buy. ive done this on a few cars but if it doesnt work youll only be out about 6 bucks and a couple feet of wire.

I have to hold my light switch in the off position when I start my Tahoe or the passenger side will not ignite. I DO have the relay, I've replaced the ballast, checked all the wiring ...yata yata but still have the problem.

Sorry to say, I'm so annoyed that I'm ready to put some PIAA bulbs in and ditch the HIDs.

The AR-02 is used in all automobiles equipped with a Headlight Malfunction Warning System. The Vehicles Headlight Malfunction Warning System usually has indicators located in or around the instrument panel cluster to alert the vehicle operator when a headlight malfunctions.

THE PROBLEM WITH HID's

The headlight circuit is incapable of powering HID lights directly due to the excessive current draw during start-up of the ballast which could be as much as 10 amp's., causing the HID lights to flicker, and ultimately not start.

To eliminate the problem of insufficient power to the HID ballasts and lights, installers provide an alternate source of power to the HID lights through a device like the Switch Smart Automotive Relay. This method does the job of providing the needed power, but since the headlight circuit is not sufficiently loaded, any vehicle equipped with a Headlight Malfunction Warning System, will have Fault indicators lighted on the instrument cluster.

The AR-02 HID ALLEVIATES the PROBLEM

THE AR-02 HID RESTORES normal operation to the Vehicle's Headlight Malfunction Warning System. The vehicles Headlight Malfunction Warning System will not falsely indicate a malfunction. In the event of a HID LAMP or BALLAST malfunction, the Vehicle's Headlight Malfunction Warning System will correctly report the defect.

AR-02 HID is simple to install

One AR-02 HID is required for each ballast installed in the vehicle, nothing else is required!

The AR-02 HID OUTPUT (YELLOW wire) is connected to the HID Ballast.

The AR-02 HID POWER INPUT (RED wire) is connected to the automobile BATTERY (+) TERMINAL

The AR-02 HID GROUND connection (BLACK wire) is connected to the HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT GROUND connection.

The AR-02 HID CONTROL CONNECTION (WHITE wire) is connected to the HEADLIGHT CONTROL CIRCUIT.

Use a relay. Safest and easiest way to get a stable flow of power to the ballasts.

667theneighbour - I have relays in mine they did not fix the problem. I have taken apart the vehicle twice to make sure everything is hooked up properly, grounded, replaced ballasts, etc. The next time I take a headlight out, it will be to put back the stock bulbs.

I don't have that problem at all. When I had Luminics 55W HID bulbs sometimes the driver side one will not turn on when the doors are opened at nkght. But now that I have 35W Slim-Ballast Digital HID there is no problem at all. Plus the HID's don't draw much current at startup, only 6 amps, and then 3.4 amps there on afterwards, so I suggest you'll having this problem change to slim digital ballast from Xentech, DDM, Jazejeff and other HID vendors on this forum.

Maybe your battery is bad. Since the lights come on by ignition before the engine starts og the alternator kicks in maybe the ballasts don't get enough juice from the battery.

I too had issues with auto headlights, and improper shock to system....so I ordered some new HID's for headlights, and fogs, with the AR-02 as well...will post results when installed, if I have issues again.

my 40 dollar VVME hids in my silverado work flawlessly. Hooked up to the stock plugs, no relay. Left the auto lights engauged. They flicker at start up, but no issues after that. :D

Same here. :) Only I had to put the plug on the ballasts on reverse.

to resolve all hid problems start the truck with the emergency brake pressed..turn on the hid headlights and/or fogs then release the brake and you should be good to go. Has worked for me for the past year

well try it out if it does not override your auto-headlights, and you still wont install a relay use a toggle and tap into the power of both the headlights. When you turn the truck off leave the toggle in the off position. Make sense ?
