PLEASE HELP!!!!

Did a search, but no luck. I did find the below pic in the install thread.

When trying to remove the 4 bolts that hold the license plate bulbs piece they just spin and spin. How can i get this off. i have a aftermarket camera that I was going to place in the factory location. PLEASE help anyone. At this point it seems like it will never come off and i may have to buy a new one and cut the old off.

Make sure your using deep sockets. If not the studs will not clear the socket. I find it hard to beleive you stripped them all so thats hopefully the problem.

bump.

still looking for info/help. stopped by a chevy dealer and he said they are stripped and to use vice grips to turn the bolt itself saying he thought they are just tapped into the piece. that didn't work either. i feel like there is a bolt head on the other end. any suggestions?

thanks

There just tapped into the plastic. If there stripped you need to figure out how to get them off. 3 of the 4 you cans ee with your eyes and one is behind the wiper motor. Theres no magic way to get this off if its stripped. Just force and luck.

Dropping my stuff off for paint on Monday. So as soon as it gets done I will be doing the swap.

Anyone know what type of cable was used to install the camera in "yourgmsolutions" writeup in the tech/install forum? I will need four wires to hook up my new factory camera, so does anyone know what cables have 4 wires in it?

in case anyone was wondering I had to end up cutting these off. i was able to get a dremel in there and cut them off. in any case if anyone is going to do this, the bolts on my hoe appeared to be lock tighted (Blue) on. May do you some good to use a heat gun or hair dryer to help losen. The way GM designed this piece is very poor in my opinion and very easy to strip the bolts. I ended up getting some flat head bolts and used an epoxied them back into the piece. IMO it is a lot stronger the what GM turned out. Hopefully, this will help out someone. Also, thanks for the replies guys.

I used some security camera 4c shielded cable. I had a leftover case of it from a job. I can check and see if I have any left if you still need some.

I'm picking up a tahoe within the week and I plan to immediately install the oem nav and reverse camera. I may shoot you some questions when it comes time for the install. Is the rear mounting the biggest hassle? How easy is it to run the cable back to the head unit?

How are you installing the camera ajs800? Factory way with all the harness or with the gmlockpick?

RIght now I am planning on doing it the factory way. I have the original lockpick that overrides the "in motion" screen for both the DVD/ nav info options that I plan to use. I dont' think I have any other options other than to install the camera the factory way directly to the deck. What I'm trying to figure out is...can I use any aftermarket camera and then purchase the nav interface and harness from a dealer so that it works with the OEM Unit? IS there anything special with the OEM camera?

little secret here for I had the same problem. Before turning any bolts, heat the studs with a mini torch, of course be very careful as to not overheat them. It takes about 10-15 seconds to cook the coating out. Let cool 15 seconds, remove the nuts. Very stupid design in deed........

You need a wrench and needle nose vise grips to remove nuts from the studs once you break them free. You need to rebond the bolts to the plastic if your going to reuse the factory trim.....

Problems all around. Warning to all, removing this rear trim is a disaster. I got fed up and tryed to do a "controlled rip off" and we all know how that ends. Scratched up tailgate.

After I reinstalled the new Denali rear trim I came to find that it does not cover up the old area leaving the wear lines around it.

Just a warning to all before doing this.
