I have a 1997 Tahoe. The heater control valve leaks constantly. Actually it is hard to tell if the valve is leaking or coolant is coming from where the hose connects to the valve. I have changed the valve twice and replaced all hoses and clamps. . No leaks will occur for a few months and then leaks show up again. I have no engine performance or overheating issues. This is very frustrating. Any recommendations? Could something be causing pressure in the cooling system forcing coolant out of the weakest point ie the heater control valve?

Well, this isn't a cure, more of a band-aid, but it stops bothersome leaks on all my used junk. I replace the hi-pressure radiator caps (usually around 16 psi) with lower-pressure lever-vent caps (around 7-8 psi). I've always felt that 16 psi is overkill and unnesessary for a mild-mannered driving style. Engine in good condition, good tune, 50/50 coolant mix, 180-195°f thermostat, well working coolant recovery system, I see no and experience no boilover risks. Works for me...

Thanks for your replies. I got an OEM valve this time and replaced it. The last leaking valve came from Napa. I thought their parts were better quality than the other chains but not in this case. Hopefully the OEM valve lasts longer than 4 months! Have a good weekend.
