First post. Great forum.

I took a test drive in an 08 Black 3LT Tahoe 4x4 today. Dealer swapped for it but did not notice that it had no 3rd row so they said they are stuck with it and want to get rid of it.

Has 20 inch wheels and 6 disc cd. Nice looking truck and pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

List was apprx. $44.5k and their first offer was $39.7K. It sounded good to me but this was the first one I have seriously looked at.

Good Deal?

Also, will the 20 inch wheels hinder my beach driving?

Thanks in advance.

might could do a little better if you hammer on 'em for a while but that sounds like you're already getting close to a true invoice deal. if you have a list of all the options it has, i would 'build' it on edmunds.com to get an idea of what the invoice should be - though in my area (southeast) there's a roughly $800 'advertising fee' or something like that that isn't reflected in the edmunds invoice but makes up part of the real GM invoice. in other words, i'd take edmunds invoice price and add about $800 to get true invoice. then, check both edmunds and chevy's website to see what current incentives are available in your area - i think the national incentives through the 19th include $1k bonus cash and $750 base rebate, and then here locally we have another $500 in local auto-show incentives. Not sure what'll happen after the 19th - if they'll go up or down, though.

from having just bought an '08 suburban myself last weekend, i'd say there's probably $4k between invoice and sticker, less rebates - so if you're at ~$5k below sticker with their first offer, you're already pretty close to invoice minus rebates - they may have another $1k to play with, though. if they're really looking to move the unit, there's also probably another $1200-1500 in holdback that they can tap into, but more likely they could use up to 4 "GM certificates" @ $250 each, so theoretically $1k below invoice would be doable without them losing any holdback money. however, they only have a limited # of certificates to use in any given month, so it would depend on how many they have left and if they're willing to use them on your deal as to whether that helps you or not.

hope that helps - sounds like a pretty good deal at first blush, though.

Depending on what options come w/ the 3LT, I'd say you're doing just fine!!! Go for it!!! Espcecially if it has everything you want in it... Like others noted, brand new, stickers run well above $45K... I actually seen one for over $50 the other week!!! :eek2: But it did have some decent aftermarket rims the dealer put on themselves!!! ;)

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

I have another one for you.

'07 2LT Z71 w/ nav, rear view camera, head curtain side airbags, 3rd row.

Sticker is $47K+ and they are offering just under $38K w/ the normal Red Tag incentives.

Seems good to me but I have just started looking.

What do you think?

Also, I have not test driven a Z71 yet. Is there that much of a difference in the ride? Is it a lot stiffer?

Again, thanks in advance.

I got an 07 LT3 Z71 for $40k back in May. Test drove an LT3 (I do not think it had the 20s on) and Z71. Depends what kind of ride you are looking for. On the road, it appeared that the LT3 cushioned potholes better and the Z71 controlled body lean better. I prefer the stiffer truck ride of the Z71.

Off-road the stiffer suspension of the Z71 is great (did not offroad the LT3). The Z71 also comes with skid plates and I have the optional 4.10 final drive gear.

Tough choice. $38k for the 07 LT2 Z71 is a good deal and sounds like a good fit if you offroad. Does the 08 have the 6 speed automatic? Hmm...

i think only the 08 2500's do

i wish they would make a 2500 z71 with a 6.6 liter deisel and a 6 speed allison tranny, that would be awsome.

Thanks for the info.

I test drove the LT3 a week or so ago and it was a great ride but I actually did think it was a little soft, and I did notice the body lean. So I think a little stiffer all around would be good. The 08 I was looking at did not have the 6 speed.

I think I may go for it. I will let you know.

You mentioned the ride was "soft", did it have the autoride suspension? That is how I described my non-autoride Yukon after trading it in for a new Denali w/ autoride.
