Hope someone can guide me here. I need my fuel pump replaced on a 1999 2dr 4wd Sport and they quoted me $475 for the pump and 3 hours labor ($830 total). They said they get the pump from the manufacturer because they've had problems with after market fuel pumps.

Can anyone shed light on this? Am I getting hosed? Is this way too much for this repair? Amy insight is much appreciated.

thats a hosing in my book. do it yourself, you can get gm pump online for less, and save the labor by doing it yourself, its not hard.

That part price sounds about right if your getting it from the dealer. I'm not sure about your truck (im new on the GM SUV scene) but i think your fuel pump comes with the fuel sender. Now if the other people that posted said you can get this cheaper online then go for it. I would not suggest with anything aftermarket (pepboys, autozone etc) because I also have had problems with using them. Good luck

what are the symptoms if your fuel pump is failing/ starting to fail.

the reason I ask is that when I was at Cousins today, i backed out of my spot, and the truck killed. I mean, it started up right away, revved weird a little, didnt have much power. it seemed to go away, but it never does that kind of thing.

and the jiggly needle oin the fuel gauge is still again.. like it healed itself or something after 50,000 miles.

SO no way on the aftermarket pumps, huh... damn.
