I have a 2004 Tahoe Z71 with 160,000 miles on it. Over the weekend the tahoe quit working, when you tried to start, it would crank and try to get going going but was not getting fuel. I replaced the fuel pumprelay and it fired right up we were able to drive home. A few hours later my wife hopped in to run to store and got stranded. same issue, it would crank and try to start but no dice. I replaced the fuel pump relay again and it started up.

Any suggestions on what it could be? i am thinknig fuel pump as it is original but dont want to spend $300 and that not be the issue.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Are you sure the relays were bad or did it just reset the pump circuit when you pulled the relay out? Sounds like a bad fuel pump, I would put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail and test the pressure (should have ~60 psi and should hold after the key is turned off). Does your 2004 have the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel rail and if so have you checked to make sure it is not leaking back to the tank? My 2005 has the FPR in the pump assembly but I think the 2004 still had it on the rail and if that is the case I would take a close look at it as they are known to be a problem. If you end up needing a pump try Rock Auto, I purchased my ACDelco pump from them for ~$215.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply Jeff. I'll check a couple of things when I get home but dont remember seeing the fuel pressure regulator on the injector rail. Ill have to stop and grab a pressure gauge also.
