New to the forum, just got a new black Z71, but bought it in a state that requires front/rear plates. I live in a state that only requires rear. Needless to say I've got that awful mounting bracket attached to the front grill, messing up the pretty Z71 trim details. It looks like the dealership installed it with some type of rivet instead of screws/bolts. Anyone know how to get it off without damaging the bumper? I know there will be holes there but was thinking I could find a black screw/bolt that would fill in. Otherwise, I'll have to put some type of decorative tag on there. Thanks for the help.

I took mine off, here is what I did:

I drilled out the center of the large rivets so that the head would become weak. Next I took some pliars and grabbed the head. If you turn the head back and forth, the rivet will weaken since you drilled through it and the head will snap off. This will allow you to pull off the license bracket.

My bro works in body/paint and he said this is the only thing that you can do besides taking the whole bumper off to get to the heads of the rivets.

This will leave two holes in your bumper, but it will still look a lot better.

I removed the tag bracket on my Impala, which is the same setup as the Tahoe I believe. To remove the bracket just drill out the rivets.
