I just bought an '02 Yukon XL with 5.3 and the towing package, 95K miles light use. I pull a 7K lb. (GVWR) trailer on tour.

What I'm concerned about is transmission heat.

Have any of you used a finned transmission pan in addition to the cooler? Or, have you seen any tests proving that this helps or doesn't?

I'm sure it would help, but to what degree. Just be sure you replace ALL the ATF in the system more often. You may want to install a temp gauge so you can monitor the temps of the fluid to see how hot it gets.

What JB said, the numbers will tell you what to do. I don't think a finned pan is needed if you have proper size cooler. Worse case just add another cooler or larger one. A friend of mine rigged a system to spray a mist of water onto his when temps got too high for his liking.
