I am working on a neighbors 97 Tahoe . The number 1 engine fuse under the hood has a dead short in the circuit. We pulled the engine out and when we did the short went away. After we installed the engine the short appeared again. We disconnected each sensor and ground trying to isolate the short with no luck. Can a sensor short out? I even purchased a fault finder (FF310 by General Technologies) which I am still learning to operate. Anyone have any suggestions or known problems with this circuit? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the neighborhood!

hmm, how were you able to tell that the short went away with the engine out? How are you testing it beyond the new scanner? Have you inspected ALL the ground straps and the main engine wiring harness.

Make sure to double check the plugs where the main vehicle harness connects to the engine harness, make sure that ALL the connecting pins are actually seated all the way into the male side of the plug.

Dont get Short with the 'Hoe.

Put a testlight in the socket across the fuse, start unhooking everything 1 at a time, untill the light goes out, dont forget the coil, PCM, etc...........

If ECM1 fuse, Coil,Coil driver, injectors, and CKP sensor.

Also if you want some basic diagrams, www.autozone.com has them if you punch in your vehicle and click Repair Help/ then Repair Guides. You will want Chassis Electrical and then wiring diagrams, make shure you read the sub headdings so you get the right diagram.....

My bad, there is an Engine 1 fuse, check MAF sensor, ALL 4 O2s, CAM position sensor, Canister purge solenoid, and PCM pin A4.

Found short

I want to thank everyone who replied to my post. I found the short today finally! For a heads up, it was where there is a little tin cover mounted on the passenger side of the frame for the oxygen sensor connector. The wire rubbed against the tin cover and caused the dead short. I highly recommend tool made by General Technologies FF310 fault finder. Once you get the hang of it work's really good.
When you have the tool hooked up the transmitter blinks red if there is a short circuit and you just run the receiver over the harness to locate the short. Here is a video on how it works if you are interested in it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/m39U1OU8CVOWHM/ref=ent_fb_link Once again thank you for your suggestions
