ok, so i recently bought my tahoe (auto 5.7 2 door) and it came with a pair of subs with amp and an after market remote starter. there is also a control for a cd changer but without the actual changer. i only mention these because i have no damn idea where to start. first wierd thing was my subs were cutting out all the time then finally they just quit. next up was a day where my wipers would come on everyso often without being activated. then one day my cruise contol quit (checked all fuse they are fine). then last week i my daytime running lights and dashboard lights began staying on after the ignition was turned off key out etc. i read online that often weird elec. problems may have to do with faulty igntion switch. so i bought one online and it turns out it was for a standard i hooked it up anyways and began boosting my now dead battery(from the lights staying on of course). now i knew it wouldn't start but i was just wanting to see if the light problems were the same as before and they are. so i stuck the old ignition switch back on to be able to start it. im wondering now perhaps break pedal switch? could it be the cluster fu*k of wires running throuugh my dash? bad battery cables? how can i diagnose this better? any advice would be greatly appriciated. im new to chevy's and although the header swaps and suspension lifts are easy as heck im baffeled by the electrical!
ps after having investigated the conditions of both ignition switchs im pretty sure this task may have already been done by a previous owner...seems recent too...

The very first thing you must do, is identify the maker of the remote start and obtain a schematic of "what they did" to hook it up.

Most of the installs I have seen of those and also security systems have been done by butchers.

When you see which circuits would have been disturbed by those guys, you will stand a chance to isolate your problems.

Also be looking for odd connections by aftermarket stereo equipment installers. Those guys can also cause big problems.

Once you get these two items figured out, we can start chasing the "why's" and "what for's". :)

Agreed. If needed, rip out all aftermarket components and start over!

If you are willing, the best route would be to remove the "remote start", unless you have a real need. I know that just the nature of their system makes it necessary for them to inflitrate the cars security system to allow it to run the engine, but not let the doors open, or whatever without the proper sequence of events happening.

A close friend had a car he bought with one of these systems and it was closer to being a 3,000 pound paper weight, than a car. After removing the system, all of his electrical problems evaporated.

I remember he said it was fairly easy to remove, because they used crimp on connectors so it was easy to spot where the editing had been done.

I'll do what I can from here with wire identification's if you need it. :)

What year is your Tahoe?

You can find wiring help at:

www.the12volt.com
www.bulldogsecurity.com

Either will have enough info to help you find the wires.

Truthfully, if you find the "brain" of the remote start, trace the wires back and you'll find where they are connected.

If you want to keep the remote start, use the websites above to help you locate the correct wires.
