I was told by someone that getting bigger rims is going to mess up my transmition and speedometer/odometer. Is this true? I know brake performance will go down a little and the handling will change but will these other things happen?

This is in regard to 22" rims 305/40/22 tires.

Thanks, Dan

Your speedometer will change slightly due to less revolutions per mile, which means your odometer over time will be slightly off as well. This can be taken care of with a programmer.
The heavier wheel combo will put slightly more stress on the steering linkage and pwr steering pump, but not enough that it's of a concern. When it's time to replace your tierods, pitman/idler arms, etc. down the road, I'd upgrade to beefier pieces though.
Braking distances will increase and pad life will shorten.
Handling performance in most cases will be better.

I went from stock to 305/40/22. Handles better, ride is a little bumpier, but that can be taken care of with shock upgrades to stiffen the ride. Spedometer was off like 2 miles but like someone else mentioned it can be fixed. Only other thing i can think of is that if you lower your hoe, it will rub, because if i cut my wheels sharply, they rub.

I would also look into factory options if you have these concerns. You can buy 20 and 22's from gm dealers as add on accesories and they will make sure everything is a perfect fit. I went with 20 and love them no issues. The 20 are due to my curb rubbing habit other wise they would have been 22's.
