ecalade cluster question

hey, i have a escalade cluster in my 01 tahoe and i wanted to put LED blue or white lights behind it. My friend recently went to pep boys to see if he could get LED lights(for his stock cluster) from them and he did, but when he put them in they werent bright at at all its actually hard to see.(by the way i know pep boys are a joke) does anyone know which type of LED light that i need to get?
