My wife backed up and rolled into a brick wall, hitting the corner of the wall squarely with one of the backup sensors in the bumper. The bumper is hardly scratched but the left most "eye"/sensor is damaged, making the whole system useless. The body shop said it would cost $1250 to replace. All I want to do at this point is disable it so that it doesn't read "Service Parking Assist" every time I start driving the car. Is there an easy way to do this???

you could try and find a fuse that it uses but i dont know if this would fully work b/c i dont know what other functions that certain fuse does.

other than that you could just press the button and turn it off manually each time you reverse.

I am just wondering how that happened with the Camera and the Assist?

haha true but in defense i have almost hit stuff too only b/c the backup sensors are kinda slow... i mean by the time they are blinking at 3 and basically yelling at me im already on top of the other car :mob:

but the price does seem really high to replace them... maybe some aftermarket ones - EBAY...

The sensors actually worked but my wife was backing down a hill. She stopped short of the wall and shifted into drive but the car rolled just enough backwards before going forward to hit the corner of a brick right in the middle of one sensor. Is there a way to unplug the system from the computer so that it doesn't think the system is installed?

That price sounds way too high, you should check another shop or the dealer for a second quote

I don't care about having the system work anymore - I can tell my wife to bend her neck when reversing the vehicle. I just want the dash to quit telling me to "Service Parking Assist" every time I start the car. I am not in a position to be paying to get the option fixed right now. If it can't be done, it can't be done. I just thought there might be a way to disconnect a wire from the computer to have it no longer recognize that a parking assist system is installed so it won't think I need to have it serviced....

parking assist

There are two buttons to the right of the steering wheel The second button from the top allows you to turn off the parking assist along with the chimes ,auto start and most other options.

I went through the buttons / menu to the right of the steering wheel. It will allow me to turn off auto door locks, adjust other preferences, etc. but there is not an option for "Parking Assist". On the bottom of the middle console, I can push the button to turn off the parking assist every time before it backs up or I can touch the top button to the right of the steering column for the "Service Parking Assist" screen to disappear. I just want to figure out how to unplug it so the car doesn't think there is a backup assist. I want to get rid of the option. Isn't there a way to do that? Thanks...

I don't think he wanted to spring for the $1250 or put it on his insurance.
