I am in the process of deciding upon replacing my cats with a direct fit system. The one I've been finding is magnaflow. I guess I'm wondering if these things really bolt on to the existing headers/muffler as described. I got under it the other day and there seems to be quite a bit of stuff in the way. Is this something the average person could do? (By average, I mean a floor jack/ramps and no torch or welder). Just seems pretty tight. I guess I could cut up the new pipe a bit and clamp it back together, but would rather not.

Just don't want to get raped by the exhaust place for replacing 2 cats. Only 1 is bad, or so my code says, but I figure I'll just do both while I'm at it.

you shouldn't need a torch or welder, although it does make life easier. the direct fit cats will bolt up to your headers(exhaust manifold) with no issues. there should be a u-bolt to connect it to the exhaust. welding would be better, but not necessary. and its only 3 bolts on each header. not sure about how the cat connects to exhaust. might have to pull out the sawzall, or, a hacksaw if you have the time, patience, and beer.

well - i actually had 2 cats installed for 257 bux... cheapest i could find it - and u replace one... than more than likely the ses will come on for the other one so it is a good thing your doing both - it depends on what kit it is - because if it is direct fit the only bolts that i know of on our exhuasts is the ones holding the exhuast to the exhuast manifold.. and if those new cats replace it from there back than the best way to get those manifold bolts of is some PB spray or some WD40.. somewhere in that line.. spray it on there and let it sit for awhile but.. somewhere you would have to cut.. and than re-clamp them and then if you wanted you could drive it to a shop and have them just weld up the new pipe where it slid into the old pipe .. that should cost 15 bux.. at a tops - and the Magnaflow i found is the Dual Converter Y pipe assy. $285.62 - i really don't remember our yukons/tahoes having that bolting place right after the cats - maybe yours does? mine doesn't but i've had alot of exhuast work done as well - if it does.. than all you need to do is bolt it up and put your O2s in there.. and all will be well

the cats install isnt hard, but it would be easier with a torch just in case.
anyway, you can bolt everything in, and the crossmember that you need to remove just bolts hold it on.
dont forget a new gasket for the flange on the magnaflow.

I forgot to mention that link is for my 03 Escalade however just chose your year of hoe and they will list the right ones for your truck as well. But you do have options.

I REALLY wish Random Technologies made a setup for our trucks as I LOVED thier x-over x-pipe+cat combo they made for my Z06. :yesnod:

If you are up for having a "custom setup" fabed in the shop. I would highly recommend these as your cats and have them welded in line.

If you wanted to also put "bullet" glass packs in place of your cats, you can also get O2 simulators to trick the computer into thinking you had real 02 Sims  and just keep you stock exhaust but your truck will SCREAM at WOT but also sound like a deeper stock tone at idle. Its a sneaky setup and many around my parts run this setup.

I would have to warn you though, the exhaust smell can get to ya if you run too rich.... :(
