New member. searched forum, but didn't find anything quite like this.
OK, Here goes.
2001 Tahoe. purchased Last Feb. with 91k miles. got it home and the next day, would not start. While trying to start, it cranks faster then normal. sounds kinda like a honda with a busted timing belt. started about 10 min later. have friend with yukon that had fuel pump problems that recommended a mechanic. Took Tahoe to him and could not reproduce problem. got it back, 1 week later same thing. 10 min later, started fine. took backt o mechanic and had him drive it daily like it was his vehicle for 3 weeks. could not reproduce. got it back, next day same thing. This went on for 4 months. Have warranty that cover lots. Replaced fuel pump. still happens to me. replaced crankshaft and camshaft sensors. still happens to me. finally would not start for mechanic. found to have no fuel pressure. grabbed wiring that leads to fuse box under hood. all the relay's started clicking and actuating. fuel pressure came back. finally found corrosion in and under fuse box in engine compartment. Cleaned it all up in July. problem stopped till now. seems to me that something is causing fuel pressure to go away, electrically. Anyone got any ideas? What seems to be different on my problem from others is the fast cranking...Thanks for the help!

Whew, troubleshooting electrical problems is no fun task.

Only advice I can offer is follow the harness from the fuse box to each component of the system and check each point using a multimeter. You may find more corrosion somewhere, or possibly a bad connection...

Good luck. Hopefully some other members here will have some ideas.

Turned out to be the fuel pump relay, even though it had been changed 3 times!!! 4th one is a new part number superceeded by Chevy. looks like they finally figured it out!

Ya, got it fixed 2 weeks before a 3000 mile found trip to into Mexico and back. On the trip, the starter relay freaked out, and it wouldn't start. was able to switch the starter and headlight relays and both worked to get us home. Called my machanic to get oil changed and starter relay replace and guess what?? Relay is on national backorder. still don't have a new one, but still starting and headlights working for now...
