I love my 2008 Tahoe that I've owned for almost 5 months, but there are a couple little things it does (or doesn't do) that really annoy me. I think a simple re-program of certain parameters in the computer would probably take care of them but I'm not sure if it can be done and if so, by whom.

The first thing I'd like changed is I'd like the recirculating air to stay selected regardless of which vent position I choose. As it is now, I can only put the recirc on when the vents blow on my face and feet simultaneously. I think it also will stay on if only the face vent only is chosen. In every other vent / defog setting the recirc air gets shut off and cannot be put on. I really don't like other vehicle (nice way of say s#@t box) exhaust coming into my truck at traffic lights etc. It'd be nice if it remembered setting this when I shut the truck off...

The other thing I'd like to re-program is the fog lights. I'd like them to remember their last setting. If I left them on, I'd like them to come back on when the headlights go on. If they were off, they should stay off.

Also, is there any way to disable the seat belt chime without killing the airbag, etc.? At least on the passenger seat?

After reading this forum, I'm sure there's someone on here who has done these things or knows how. Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure all of the things you mentioned can't be changed, sorry

That is true. The way to kill the seatbelt chime is to have the seat occupant use the seatbelt.

Don't know about the other stuff, but there is a reason why it doesn't leave recirculate on all the time. It's supposed to be a temporary setting to obstruct smelly outside air, or supercool the inside, things like that. It shouldn't be on all the time because it can fog the inside, give you low oxygen/ high monoxide air, and make the system mildew. It pisses me off that one time I saw a review on the Tahoe from some writer who thought he was a coneseur of fine driving, and he bashed the Tahoe for this reason. Sometimes the engineers are smarter than we are.

In my last vehicle, a 2005 GMC Envoy, I could put the recirc air on in about half the settings, the Tahoe only 2... I understand why it does what it does, but I would like to have control over it. Apparently the GM engineers never drive in the NYC outskirts where we have 20 year old vehicles on the road that burn nearly as much oil as gas. I'll take my chances with low O2 / high CO any day if it means I don't have to breathe what comes out of the junk that's on the road in front of me.

Even when in the Recirc position, the new Tahoes have about 10% outside air mixed in. Mine stays in Recirc except for the floor position.
