I have had my 98 Kon now for 7 yrs. The transmission, water pump, brakes and rotors, radiator, intake has been replaced. I have about 187K miles on it and want to keep it till it won't roll anymore. I got a flowmaster 40 put on it and it sounds great but I'm trying to get better gas mileage. Right now I get 14city to 16hwy. I use Lucas gas treatment 2 to 3X a month and I see the mpg increase sometimes but I want more... How much of an increase would I get if I put a cold air intake on my 5.7 Vortex?

16 is about the best i've heard out of a tahoe/yukon. you might pick up a couple from the CIA. your probably get a little better take off out of it more than anything.

Yeah, the amount of mileage you get from bolt-on performance upgrades is very marginal. I'd be impressed if you saw like 1 mpg increase. I mean, I'll put it this way: I've got a full Spectre open air element intake, Edelbrock headers, Flowmaster dual-out exhaust, MSD high output ignition coil, Royal Purple synthetic oil in the crank case, and the best I have gotten in my truck for a city/highway mix is 14.99 mpg. That is with doing a lot of coasting and going in neutral down hills, downshifting instead of braking, etc.

Down shifting will cost you more in the end than anything. Brakes are made for slowing/stopping, tranny is made for moving. When I drive my wife's Yukon Denali XL I can swing 17 mpg in town and on the highway with just coasting and keeping it at 65mph.
