I have a 2007 4X4 Z71 with the 5.3 Flexfuel in it. Does the computer need to be reprogrammed after intallation.

I was looking to purchase the K&N. Let me know what you think.

If you don't want to hassle with oiling the filter after cleaning it look into the AEM Brute Force. Good looks, easy install, dry element. Wash, dry, install.

What is anyones experience with leveling kits. Is it worth dipping into the pocket book if you are not going to add larger tires or wheels?

MAF, Mass Air Flow sensor. Mine is a 2000 but I would assume it's in the same place, it's the thing on your air intake where it comes out of the filter box, has some wires plugged into it. It monitors the amount of air flowing through and tells the computer. Some guys put on aftermarket MAFs, although I'm not sure what the gain would be. I would think if you were looking to improve performance or efficiency there would be other places to start, but that's just me. It can get dirty and need to be cleaned. I had to clean the one on my Bonneville. Coincidentally, I had a K&N drop in in it, I always wondered if it was dirty because I got too much oil on the filter when I cleaned and reoiled it, it can happen. That's one of the reasons I went with the AEM. Back to cleaning it, you can buy MAF cleaner. I'm told you don't want to use other cleaners as they may be too harsh. If you do take it off to clean it be careful not to touch the wires inside.

Don't sweat the noobness, we all need to jump in some time. I've been haning out here about a year and still consider myself a noob. Welcome aboard, there are lots o' helpful folks here. You can learn quite a bit if you pay attention.

I like the idea of the AEM for sure. I did start looking into Ram-Air hoods to go along with the mod. They look sweet and if I can con the wife into it, I would be one step closer! Haha...

One reason for a new MAF is that a CAI lets through more air and the stock MAF might, MIGHT, trigger a code believing something is wrong because of the extra air. I'm sure many people don't have an issue with this, but it MIGHT. :) Most stock MAF's also restrict air-flow more than many after market ones.

I knew they made bigger MAF's I just wondered if they made that much difference, or if they were the type of item you upgraded if you were looking to make every possible change to eek every possible fraction of a hp out of things, if you know what I mean. I assumed other more basic mods would come first. Wouldn't the bigger MAF would throw the same code unless the PCM was programmed for the change?

The AM MAF sends a correct signal despite more air going through it. Thats the point. But try the CAI first. If it throws a code try the MAF.

Now is the ram air hood worth the doh or will the AEM work well without it? I'm that dude that has a hard time just half assing it. You know "stopping short". haha....

No need to purchase a new MAF, the OEM one can handle ~550hp. The aftermarket ones can cause more issues than you bargain for!

And being the noob that I am I didn't even notice you had an 07. Fitment issues might be different but the MAF and CAI recommendations should stay the same. That being said, lots of folks run CAI's without ram air hoods. Lots also buy or build ram air intakes that run from below the grill up into the bottom of the air box, at least in this section. Do a search in the section for your year and I'll bet you'll find lots of help.
