Cold Air Inductions spends a lot of time and energy doing accurate and meaningful testing before releasing any of our products to market. One of the ways in which we test our products is through the use of a Dynamometer (more commonly known as a Dyno, and more specifically a chassis Dyno in our case.)
By doing multiple “pulls†on a stock vehicle, and then doing pulls with the same vehicle with the addition of our cold air intake, we can get an accurate sense of how much HP & TQ our CAI is adding to the vehicle. Of course, to keep the tests as accurate as possible, there are many factors that need to remain the same so that the gains we see our relative to only the addition of our CAI, and not affected by outside factors such as engine & coolant temps, ambient temp, heat soak, etc. Unlike many of our competitors, we do not try to attract consumers with false and outlandish claims to performance gains. Our customers tend to be educated about the product, and understand & appreciate the fact that we provide information that will remain relevant when you install the CAI and run it in the real world, as opposed to making false claims that have been manipulated to show unrealistic gains.
To our company, designing, engineering, and manufacturing a great product means nothing if you are not doing accurate testing to ensure that the gains that you are advertising can be expected in the real world. At Cold Air Inductions we put our products through a series of different tests to ensure that our designs maximizing performance. After testing, we make adjustments, and test again, this process is repeated until we have a product that is proven to perform to its maximum capabilities. Here are just a few of the things CAI Inc. does to ensure we are offering Cold Air Intakes with proven results:
• Multiple and accurate Dyno Pulls to capture fuel trims and make the necessary adjustments until optimal fuel trims are achieved.
• All Dyno pulls are done with the hood down to ensure accuracy to real world driving conditions.
• We use a load cell Dyno which allows us to put different strains (loads) on the vehicle to ensure we are achieving maximum performance results under a variety of real world driving conditions. (under acceleration, cruising speed, etc.)
• Flow benching our intake tubes as well as our filters
• The use of thermal imaging technology which allows us to see our ceramic coating and thermal insulation in action. This also allows us to locate “hot spots†under the hood so we can ensure the use of different heat barriers in the most effective locations, keeping air as cool as possible.
• Our filters also go through various tests to ensure they are actively capturing harmful particles (down to 5 microns), as well as designed for maximum air flow.
I hope that many of you find this information helpful in your research for a cold air intake. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions, we are always more than happy to help.
