mine wont do one :confused2: even with 3.73 and 5.3 liter :umn:Go do a burnout, your truck is fine.
Too much torque management and not enough power! PM justin or jennabear for a blackbear tune and your truck will run 100x better.
Mine has done the same thing since practically new ('00 Tahoe LT, 5.3L, now at 99K miles).
Dealer has always said "this is normal".
Well, the rear pinion gear broke at 63K miles in '05, and was replaced under extended warrranty, but the noise persisted. Truck is not driven "hard" at all either. I got the truck on a lift and checked all u-joints, etc for excessive play, and the excessive play is in the transfer case.
If you get under your truck (carefully) and work the driveshafts rotationally, you might find that this is the situation with yours also. Transfer cases have some known issues. Attaching a link http://www.merchant-automotive.com/ to a company that makes a rebuild kit to address a common issue. May not apply to yours, but good info anyway.
Also, search this site for "slip yoke". Another common issue that causes annoying clunking.
Hope this helps.
how many miles is practically new? does this mean it didnt do this noise when you first got it?
mine also does the noise when going into i think 4 low or high from 2 wheel drive forget which one. so that does kinda worry me it could be a transfer case problem
