Check Engine Light - Remote Starter

My check engine light came on Saturday and my remote starter stopped working too. The starter would cause the lights, etc. to blink but not actually start my 2008 Tahoe. How can I resolve the (factory) remote starter problem? Also, could the remote starter issue cause the engine light to come on?

The remote start is disabled because the check engine light is on. Once the light is fixed the remote start will work again.
