Built one for my 05 Tahoe. Needed one for the 06 I just got and figured I'd post some reference pics for anyone who wants to do it themselves (I get lots of people asking me about it).

This one works excellent because you can adjust the height (with different sized pipes) and it stows away out of sight when not in use.

You'll need less than $20 worth of galvanized pipe, four self-tapping screws, velcro, and one used computer chair base (the most basic type without any adjustments.

Here's the parts all laid out.

Pipe screwed into the pre-cut console base.

Velcro stuck to the seat base and my laptop.

And after I've drilled a hole in my cup holder to allow the pipe to pass through it. I tighten all the pipe connections as much as possible except the vertical pipe that mates to the seat bottom...want to be able to screw/unscrew it easily.

And when I'm not using the laptop, just remove the base of the seat from the pipe, unscrew the visible vertical pipe, and stow it all away in theconsole. The hole in the cup holder is covered with the bottom plastic overlay and the remaining pipe is out of sight.
