Alot has changed since I had my 1996 Tahoe - accessibility to basic engine components is one. Can anyone tell me the trick to changing the far left spark plug? The space between the block and housing is too narrow for my hand, and I don't think you can get at it from below. Help!

Hadn't given it much thought since they're good for 100K but if you're talking about #8 plug, it looks like using a U-joint and a couple of extensions should do it. If not, then you might have to remove the inner wheel house plastic.

BTW the GM Service Manual is mum on this.

Thanks! It is indeed #8 sparkplug, and it took an hour or so to figure out how to contort myself above and below the truck to get a T-bar ratchet and U-joint in to remove and replace. The challenge is tightening, and not overdoing it. It easier to remove it from underneath and going through the wheel well, and replacing it from above the block. Cut my hand up though.

Definitely I am not pleased with the design in respect to weekend mechanics!I changed the battery a while back and that took all kinds of time because of all the bric a brac you have to remove. I also don't like the independant electric air fan. Years ago I built a container yard with a primary base made of crushed concrete. At the time I was using a Jeep Laredo as a yard vehicle and I must have burned out 3 fans with the residue. Not a problem with my 96 Tahoe as it was direct off the block.

The new plugs are Bosche Fusion Iridium/Platinum. Definite increase in horsepower - 5-7% perhaps?

Unless the old ones weren't working...;)

I doubt that the plugs on an 07 were bad but spark plugs just allow the motor to be as efficient as it should be and produce the horsepower it is supposed to putting out. If the motor produces 320 HP....and the plugs are going bad...you are producing less then 320 HP. With new plugs it would bring it back to where it should be. No plug will produce more HP then what the motor will put out. All a myth my brothas.....

Oh, I agree, I was just giving the only instance I could think of where they would increase horsepower.

I put 3 of those in my intake tube........WOW....that's all I have to say :lol:

Bet you're glad the torque management is there to save the drivetrain from all of that horsepower. :smilielol::smilielol::smilielol::smilielol:

Again, Ahhh hahahaha!!!

On RiceTech.com they extended the intake tube to wrap a circle around the motor; even with the compact lawnmower engine there was STILL enough room to put at least 4 of them PLUS a propeller and some neon at the end! Some mean sounds, I imagine.

I must be getting tired....
