I was wondering if anyone has tried carbon cabin filters. I am a chain smoker and wanted to know if anyone used them and noticed an air improvement.

I just replaced mine with standard filters after removing the kick panel and finding the filter door. :mpr:

Regular filters were about $15 at AutoZone and the carbons were 'Special Order" at $60. I have seen cheaper carbon filters online but don't know if they would be worth the hassle or $$.

No longer a smoker so I cant really answer your question. I will state that my air filters were dirty and i replaced them with Bosch filters. Yea, um, I noticed no difference in air quality.

Thats not to say there isnt any, just that I have yet to notice. My thought on cabin air filters is like snake oil.

I could be way off base here but my thoughts are that they are more for keeping all the crap out of the internal system. On mine (01 Yukon) there is a fresh air intake on the right side, under the cowl area. This leads directly into the squirrel cage fan. That fan blows directly onto the cabin filters. Past (on the far, after side) the filters is a condenser and then all the internal venting. They do block a lot of crap from entering the system. I have seen leaf fragments, bugs, and tons of dust when replacing mine.

I use carbon filters in my fish tank and they are supper effective on water but I’m not so sure about air.

If you are looking to get rid of the smoke smell you might try drier sheets. I have a few stuck in inconspicuous places and they work much better than those stupid little trees…… Febreze is another option. Not all your smoke goes through the air filtration system in your truck anyway, so regardless of the filter quality it’s still getting in your headliner, seats and carpet….. yah, I’m not quitting either
