I have a 99 4x4 Tahoe that I believe has the police package. (Old border patrol truck) My left front caliper appeared to be hanging. So I took it off and bought a new one. (The original core is now gone) When I went to put it all back together It did not fit correctly.
The caliper doesn't really fit in the spindle bracket, I beat it with a rubber hammer for about an hour and finally got it to go on. (Should it be this hard?) But when I did the outer pad was in contact with the hub portion of the rotor. So I compared the pads and the originals were shorter.
After spending some time at the big 3 auto parts no one can find a pad that is the same size.

Can any one point me in the wright direction? Does any one have experience with the police edition?

Thanks'
Mark

have you tried the dealership?? or at least ask them wat the dif. is and then tell the guys at the parts store and see what they can do. they should at least be able to call around and see if others have an answer.

The only thing I can type that may help you out is to try a more knowledgeable auto parts store.

I believe the police package has different calipers (larger bore) and a normal tahoe. Check your vin with a dealer and see what you have.

Edit: You said you have a border patrol tahoe. Is it 4wd? If so then I believe the calipers are the same as a normal 4wd tahoe. Not 100% sure though.

It is a 4X4.
According to the parts house the calipers are the same. It is just very hard to get it to fit in the bracket. I don't think it should be that tough.

It shouldn't be hard at all. The floating caliper needs to be able to slide in order to function correctly once the brake pads begin to wear.

Ok let me ask a stupid question about installing the caliper. I'm trying to push it in to both of the brackets (Over the rotor) at the same time. If a rest it on the bottom bracket then there is no way for it to go in to the top bracket. Is the correct way to do it on a Chevy? (This is my first Chevy. I have owned nothing but fords up to this point.)

Thanks'

The rotors (6 bolt) should just fit right on. your pads have two clips which need to be taken off by applying pressure to the pads itself through the caliper with a long flat head. Your floating rotors are held up by the line and two bolts behind EACH floating rotor. the bolts must be turned out 3/4 of the way and pry it with the flat long head while using a rubber mallet and they should just pop right off.
INSTALL: installing should just be as easy, hook the caliper up and bolt the two bolts on to take ease off the brake line. pads should just fit right in. The police Tahoe's (rare) are a 4x4 application. Use R1CONCEPTS for thier rotors, pads and caliper purchases. very reliable, safe and good product.
