A friend did me a "favor" and gave me a bolt-on exhaust tip. That thing is around 12-14" long (I'd need to meassure) and pretty much only looks different.

Now looking into mounting it, theres not really much difficult. 3 Screws and thats it. So far no problem.

now the tip has a resonator with it, and is a double wall one. (round)
By thinking of doing the most obvious one, slide it on the tailpipe (?if thats the right word), In german its the "endrohr",
its gonna stick out in fullsize. Well the OEM / standard one just ends with the body.
Slide it in deep enough, causes the original part to stick out, and ..rather look nasty.

I just moved over from mainland europe and miss some technical explanationary things, so sorry for that...

Now, any reason not to cut down the ? tailpipe, that the total length with the new tip matches the length before?
or, is that legal? (should be)

Im not really after a perf or massive sound gain. A bit more V8 sound doesnt harm me, but I'd rather keep it quiet, so would there be an impact?

The state is oregon, maybe somebody knows somebody who can help on the legal side?

Took a while to end up here, searchign the web not really addressed my question, probably because my wordign needs improvement:)

Well I hope somebody knows..highly appericiated.

First, if it's a bolt-on it then the bolts are bound to rust. Instead of bolting them on, you may be able to weld on instead.

You may try removing just the factory resonator and welding your tip onto the tail pipe. That would probably have the tip close to where you need it to be.

Vilkommen, freund! That's about all I know, but anyway I don't think you could do it with the resonator tail there. You can cut it off, just consider that if you cut too much you may be stuck always having to use a tip that is longer than most available, but you could replace the tail pipe aft the muffler at that point. The resonator doesn't do anything for emissions and doesn't do much for outside noise levels, so I don't think there would be a problem removing it. Here in California, where the laws are strict, you can take it off no problem.

I was considering doing this exact same thing, more for looks than anything....How does it sound though? I don't want it to drone or sound much louder than stock since this is the family car

thanks,
JC

No drone and it's just a smidge louder. I drive lots of highway miles and any drone would drive me crazy.

Remember, it's a personal preference but this was the right choice for me. If you go this route make sure to get a good stainless tip.

My tip is an angled rolled edge (about 18 inches on top side and 16 inches on bottom side). That length took it back out to original stock location.

You wouldn't happen to have any sound clips would you?

Thanks a lot guys. Sorry i was a bit around those days.
I guess im gonna have the Weld option done, thanks mary900.Screws are generic steel so..yay rust 'n fall off..rest is stainless steel. Soomethgin for the garage to do to earn soem cash now.
Wilkommen Freund lol @ Black Dog

Hack-saw there i come soon lol. Once its welded on, im not really into changing it again, then later possibly against a full exhaust.
But the tip is a girl's gift and i just got to use it. No excuses allowed or im in trouble:)
Got some other little thigns, but im gonna post where they belong to :)
