I think I'm indecisive, but I'm not sure...

I keep hemming and hawing about the Tahoe I'm thinking of getting. ('00 Z71, which is the old body, basically a '99 with nifty extras. 5.7L. $6,000)

Tonight I noticed a spot of rot on the tailgate right under the window. It's not through the paint yet (or the dealer painted over it), but it's definitely rust and bumpy and not gonna last long. About 2" diameter is all. I can have that ground out, filled, and repainted no big deal, but it makes me wonder: are there any problem areas for rust on these cars? Other places I should look? Here in Oregon rust is really rare, so it makes me stop and think.

Thanks-

Hm.. the only rust that ive seen is usually where the door skins meet the door frame. so look at all the bottoms of the doors on the inside, you may see some where that seam was. Other then that above the wheel on the quarter and fender lip where its bends inward. And the obvious frame rust, that scaly stuff everyone has.. I mean if thats the only rust spot on that thing id pick it up for 6 grand..

Vehicle may have come from somewhere else (Different State.)

In NE Ohio, we use salt on the roads, EVERY vechicle here has rust!

Have them run a car fax report on it before you purchase it. It'll tell you the original place it got sold.

Hey where in Northeast Ohio are you.. Im in the Willoughby, Wickliffe Area..

I'm from Akron.

Years ago, I use to work for Lubrizol at the corp. HQ.

I go up to Willoughby at least once every other month. I hang out with my friend and her husband and kids (They live in Mentor on the Lake, but her parents lives in Willoughby.) I also take my family up to Mentor Headlands a couple times a year.
