I had an issue not too long ago where a 60amp fuse located in the engine compartment was blowing. It was causing my passenger side windows and seats not to work. I had to replace it 3 different times. All of a sudden my third brake light would come on at different times of the day. It would stay lit until I wiggled the wiring harness by the brake pedal. I thought it was the brake switch. One night the light came on and when I wiggled the harness, i saw a huge spark and I heard the fuse blow. The next morning I took a closer look and saw the E- brake pedal bracket touching the main electrical harness. I removed the tape and saw the insulation stripped off a thick pink wire and a light blue wire. That was my problem for blowing the fuse and having the 3rd light come mysteriously. Please check to see that the E-brake pedal release bracket is not rubbing on your harness. I'm sure this could have caused an electrical fire.

Signed up just to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! You were right on the money with symptoms and cause! This thread was a god send.

2007 GMC Yukon XL
My scenario:

-3 months ago my buddy comes in my house says my third brake light was stuck on (hadn't driven it all day and keys weren't in it). Weird??!?

-I replace foot pedal brake switch and various other components. No improvement. Also, when my 3rd brake light was connected it would cause my factory truck alarm to randomly go off. I eventually said screw it and just kept 3rd brake light disconnected

- 2 days ago I hop in my truck at lunchtime, press the buttons to roll down my passenger window, it stops half-way down. So I try the switch on that door as well and no luck. My back passenger window would also not roll up or down

- mechanic calls me and said I blew a 60 amp fuse, "impressive" he said!

- a Google search turns up this thread and it describes my EXACT problems.

- mechanic investigates and sure enough, that's exactly where my short was.

Thanks again dude!!!!
