Ok, so there was a weekend full of cloudy weather and occasional rain so the car washes were closed...

In that time, my black tahoe was getting dirty and dusty...

Today in the morning, I was getting ready to take it to the car wash and I noticed that there was a bird dropping on the hood of my car....

I hosed the entire truck down and then removed the bird dropping with my finger while I was spraying it...

Now that I washed my truck and was looking at the paint, I noticed that there are some scratches where the bird dropping used to be....

I know that it's more than likely that it was my finger that did it...BUT MY QUESTION IS:

How do I remove it?

It's not as light as a swirl mark but not as deep as a key scratch...

Since it's not really a scratch, couldn't you just buff it out? I dunno, but that would be my first thought.

if its as deep as a key scratch then your going to have to get yourself some duplicolor to match and fill in your paint and then after it dries wax and buff to blend it in. You might want to even try some claybar aswell.

I've got some of this on order to try on my 'Ho. Bought it used and there are some serious swirls and scratches in the hood.

Here is an email conversation I had with one of thier reps. I'll put my text in black and the reps in blue.

I have a significant amount of swirls in my red paint. If this is more than Scratch X will remove do you make any products that a non professional can use without fear of causing further damage or at that point is it better left to the experts?
Thank you.

Thank you for contacting Meguiar's. Scratch-X is for lighter swirls and scratches, and can often require a lot of work to get the product to work properly. If you have a lot of swirls I would want to work with a dual action polisher and a product like our #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish. The benefit of working with a dual action polisher would be that it can produce more friction (which would translate to better results) while still being safe (not burning through paint, or causing harm). Beyond that, you would have to work with a rotary which can cause harm if you aren't careful with them, and we wouldn't recommend using unless you had to (as they are the most aggressive machine). We make a dual action polisher, and would also recommend a manufacturer by the name of Porter-Cable. Here is a link to our machine:

I hope that information is helpful. If you have any further questions or concerns don't hesitate to contact us back and we'll do everything we can to assist. Thank you for your support of Meguiar's, and we look forward to helping with your detailing needs in the future. Also, if you ever want to e-mail us pictures of your car Meguiar's loves to see the cars that our customers drive!

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query. I have a dual action buffer, it may not be as nice as the Meguiar's one but I think it will do the job. If I follow the descriptions on your web site, Swirl Free Polish #82 looks like it falls between Scratch X and the Dual Action Polish #83. It also looks like both can be used with a dual action polisher and both are clear coat safe, will not cause more swirls than I already have, correct? Using the Scratch-X, the #82, or the #83 with a dual-action polisher, and in conjunction with a foam polishing pad will be safe for your clear coat, and not further create swirls/scratches.

After using one or the other do you need to use either of the Deep Crystal steps 1 or 2 to further prep the paint before waxing or are there any other steps before applying the wax or do you go straight from the #82 or #83 to the wax? You could go to the Deep Crystal System Polish (Step 2) to bring up the gloss as much as possible prior to putting down the NXT Generation Tech Wax, but it is an optional step.

I hope that is helpful, and if you need anything else let me know. Thanks again for your support.

I haven't done it yet so I can't report on the results but my plan is to first clay bar then use the dual action cleaner/polish #83, followed by the Deep Crystal System Step 2 Polish, then the NXT wax.

Thanx a lot man, I feel better now knowing that in the end, there is a way to remove it, I know it'll be pricey, but the good thing is knowing there is a solution....

I bought ScratchX and was using it earlier....IT WORKS!!!

Although I just hope it's not one of those temporary fixes that will come back and show later after several washes....:eek2:

No prob. I don't want to look like a walking commercial for Meguiar's, I'm sure there are other good products out there, I know some guys that swear by Zaino, but I can only speak to what I've used and that's the Meguiar's. I used the Deep Crystal Steps 1 Cleaner, and Step 2 Polish last year on my Durango. It was (past tense, totalled in December, the 'Ho is it's replacement) dark metallic blue. The Deep Crystal System gives you the best results on dark paint but I'm sure it would still shine up a white ride. They have a pretty detailed web page if you want to surf around you should find a lot of info, plus, their support staff is really good at taking the time to answer your questions.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Nah thanx a lot though, I got a guy here that'll do it for free...at least the hood lol.....

Is $200 a decent price for a detail/polish?

Depends on what all is included. If thats just the exterior, then I'd say that it's a little pricey. You can get a full, all-out, balls to the wall interior/exterior detailing done here for around $250.

Then again, you live in Kali, so who knows, maybe that's an awesome price. :smilielol:

Yeah, I'm sure that includes interior, as well as an engine clean, and a month full of free washes, plus a re-do in 6 months........
