1999 Tahoe, since newly purchased has this dangerous problem and no one has properly diagnosed for a solution.
While driving all electrical power is interrupted causing engine stop and loss of all sterring and braking power boost. Fortunately this has only happened at low speeds but occasionally while departing and decelerating from freeway speeds. Putting the transmission selector in "N" allows immediate start and everything appears normal except my radio and clock have to be reprogrammed.
This is very dangerous and so far no dealer or independent mechanic has diagnosed a solution.
The problem is very infrequent but should not be happening at all. HELP!!!!

Of course check all heavy cabling, battery to fuse box would be my first suspect, Make shure all connections are tight, check at fusebox to make shure terminals are good and with engine running some basic wiggling of cables would be good if it could be safely done....

I will pull 'em and shake 'em again but that has been done numerous times over the years. I doubt it is in the ignition switch where the disonnect source occurs. Probably somewhere in the primary side of the power, as you suggest.

I have not realized a solution. Tried all the suggestions offered and have not replaced the ignition switch. Recently had significant engine work where lots of "stuff" was removed and then reinstalled Also replaced the battery. So far, about 3 months, no recurrence of the problem. Sorry I can not offer more.
Have always believed it was interruption of the primary power.
