Battery Voltage Reading

Hi all, new to the forum and I have a question. I just purchased my 2008 Yukon Denali, it replaced my 06 Tahoe, wow, what an entirely different vehicle!! I just love it! Anyway, I have a question as it relates to proper battery volt readings on the gauge on the dash. When I start it up in the morning, it appears to have a reading of 14-16 volts, but as I start driving a bit, it drops to what appears to be 12 volts. Is this normal or do I need to take it back to the stealership? Any help on this subject would be great!
