Make sure to keep old Egr for exact matching, if you change it. I threw mine out and now I left with trying to figure out what belongs! Mine was doing the same on acceleration, cap the valve and see if it goes away.

it's not the EGR, the EGR being clogged is actually better for your car since you are not recirculating all the dirty air back into your intake, do a tune up, new plugs, new wires, new distributor cap, new rotor, new fuel filter, $200 bucks and enjoy your hoe

EGR springs get weak and will let exhaust by when not supposed to........
not arguing but living in California I often fix my cars to get them to pass SMOG and from my research and experience a working EGR valve only recirculates roughtly 10% of the exhaust gases, over the years lines and crevices build up carbon and the passages get smaller so the 10% drops to 8% maybe 6%. So 6% of exhaust recirculating through your car when it is "not supposed to" ie during the Open Loop cycle is not a problem, after all your car will go into closed loop after about 10 to 12 minutes of warming up and then it's a free for all with the EGR valve anyway.

It cracks me up when youngsters "delete" the EGR valve to gain Horse Power, and claim they got 20 horses. If it was that easy... well you know the saying

I never even thought about deleting the EGR for power. To eliminate it altogether to keep the exhaust gases from being recirculated in the first place yes, but not for power.

Never said to delete it myself, just posted a reason it may need replacement vs cleaning.....
