Well it finally happened. I was driving home Thursday after work and noticed my transmission was slipping and would not shift. The RPM's would climb to like 3500 and it still would not shift. Then I noticed it was overheating. I just figured the trans was slipping and causing the engine to get hot via the cooler in the radiator. I live 52 miles from work and at 25 miles the temp gauge pegged out at 260 so I immediatley pulled over and shut it down as I coasted into a gas station. I popped the hood and noticed that I had dumped all my coolant on the ground through the overflow. I let it cool for a while and refilled with water. I was very skeptical that the trans slipping would allow the engine to overheat to that degree but thought I would start it up and it seemed as though it was not overheating anymore. I thought I would let it idle for a few minutes before I tried getting back out on the road. As I did this I went to get something out of the back and ended up locking myself out of the damn truck. Then as a looked through the window I noiced the temp gauge climbing again. So now my transmission is slipping, my engine is overheating and I'm locked out of my truck. Luckily my hood was up so I just pulled the fuel pump relay so I would not have to break out a window to keep my engine from melting down in front of me. Now I call my wife who threw some tools in the car along with an extra set of keys. By the time she got there the engine was cool enough to drive to Auto Zone where I replaced the only thing I could think was the cause of my overheating issue, the thermostat in the parking lot. Turns out the thermostat was the cause for the overheating but the trans was still slipping. I took it to the trans shop early the next day and they figured the band was burnt up so I had no second gear. So now I have a truck that needs a $1400 trans rebuild and I've only had the thing for a month. Even with the $$$ for the rebuild I'm into this truck less than what it's worth but DAGUM!

Man, sounds like one of those days. When it rains, it pours. At least you were smart enough to pull the fuel pump relay. I think most people would have freaked and smashed some glass just to get to the keys to turn off the ignition. Good luck getting her back on the road again.
