Autoride

Greetings! I joined a few minutes ago in hopes of finding an answer to my dilemna.

I have a 2002 GMC Yukon XL that I bought used about 4 1/2 years ago. It is time to replace the shocks, but the rear shocks cost $500 each b/c I have the autoride suspension, which I have never needed.

Can I replace the autoride shocks with, for instance, Bilstein shocks and accomplish the same goal? I realize that I would not have autoride, but I have never needed it.

AFAIK, yes you can. I can't imagine the autoride being that complicated more than an air shock, compressor, drier, and switched operation.

Just be sure to disconnect the autoride system.

Then again 500$ is a lot of money for shocks. I would recommend arnott industries for air shocks. I have used them before with my crown vic I used to have. Not going to search around for their website, you have the name there, google it.

Thanks. I think that the Autoride is a worthless feature. I am sure that there are some that like it and may even need it, but I have never seen its benefit since I don't tow or load the rear end w/very much weight.

I would prefer to get rid of it altogether and add more durable off-road shocks; this might be a good reason. Thank also for mentioning to disconnect it.
