Auto Security/Alarms

Has anyone been able to add on to there factory car security/alarm system? I believe both the Denali and the Tahoes both come with a passive alarm. I would like to upgrade/add on a shock and window sensor. Is that possible or do I need to buy a full after market alarm package. My concern is not having the car stolen but broken into.

I think having a good fuel shut off system is better as no body really pays attention to an alarm.
