Just got a 2004 Tahoe LT and the radio is acting weird. AM/FM will not get in more than 2 stations. I plugged a new antenna into the factory radio and it worked great ?? So its the antenna obviously ... Question is, I've traced the antenna thru the dash, up the rail by the window, thru the headliner and all looks well. It seems to plug into a the little stubby antenna on top and I believe it shares this with Onstar. I even replaced the little stubby with a new antenna mast but nothing ?

Is there a relay or fuse that could be out ?

Thanks

Those are the Onstar and XM stubs on the top of the truck. The AM/FM antenna is by the hood on the passenger side. Mine's done that before when they didn't tighten it good after they took it off at the carwash.

I've got a question related to this. My FM reception seems decent, but for some reason I just don't think it's as good as it should be. But I get no AM reception. Every station is pure static and noise. Do you think it's the antenna? Not being able to listen to sports while on the road is terrible.

antenna location

I have no antenna near the hood on passenger side, I assume you mean on the outside of the SUV ? Do you mean on the inside of the hood or something ? Sorry for the confusion ?

Forgot to mention, the dealer here in St Pete confirms the little stubby antenna is for Onstar and AM/FM both -- it is a shared antenna. The XM radio has its own gizmo on top of the Tahoe -- a separate unit altogether.

Still baffled with the lousy reception ... help ?

Hmm... Every pre-07 Tahoe/Yukon I've ever worked on had a seperate am/fm antenna. Maybe your mast is missing? Look on the outside of the passenger cowl area near the corner of the windshield. If your mast is missing, there should be a threaded stud that the antenna mast screws into.
