I have been researching air intake systems trying to find if they will increase MPG's. I cant seem to find anyone who gives a good answer. So can anyone who has one or has had experience with them tell me if they will get me better gas mileage? I have been looking at the True Flow XDI and K&N intakes.

I have the Volant CAI, I noticed a power gain, but no significant mileage gain.

Well I was talking to my neighbor the other day and he was saying that he was getting about 3 extra mpg from his intake. He did also have Flowmasters not sure if that would make a difference.

There's no way. To OP, everything I've heard is that there is no mpg gain. If you think about it, if you flow more air, it's gonna add more gas to keep the mixture the same. Only exception being that if it increases responsiveness then you might get to X speed with Y acceleration at a lower throttle position, thus reducing fuel usage slightly. However this is usually erased by the human tendency to step on it more in order to enjoy the new feel and sound. So I'd say it's a wash at best. With that said, I definitely ordered a new intake and cat-back. GM performance for me on both, main reason being to dampen their bitching about those and any other mods.

No disrespect to you, but he's probably that guy who's gonna get 50 horsepower from a set of performance muffler bearings and piston return springs.

When I had my '07 Tahoe (before trading for the Denali) I put on an exhaust and saw a minimal increase in MPG, then added the Superchip Flashpaq and got an increase of .9 MPG, then added the GM CAI and actually saw the MPG go down almost half a MPG. All the mods were done with thousands of miles in between and I used the DIC to get my numbers. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't waste my money on a CAI. Just my .02

Leave it stock!

thier is no REAL INCREASE IN MPG. Save your money and spend it on something useful, something for MRS BDennis, or the kids.

I had written a long ass reply explaining why and referenceing personal expreinces with intakes and exhausts but this stupid site logged me out and I lost my reply so this is my condensed version.

Leave it stock.

Well thanks everyone for the advice. I don't know enough about engines and parts to know if it is possible. Saved me some money though, when he told me about it I thought I would get one if I could really get 3 extra MPG, but since it wont give me those increases and I am not worried about added hp ill just hold on to my money. I'll need it for gas!

You will not get 3 mpg extra... Maybe 1 at most... You will get more power, k&n claims 17 (flywheel), less average 20% tranny, you do the math.. You will not feel that power on the butt dyno....

I can't speak for the Tahoe cause mine is stock, but on my Hummer (6 litre engine) I had an Airaid intake and a Hypertech programmer and the mileage actually went down a little. So when these companies promise mileage increases you gotta take that as a straight up sales pitch.

I did see an MPG improvement with the edge evolution. I have a volant CAI and I didn't see any MPG improvement. I'd spend the money again on the edge evo, probably not on the CAI.
