Hello from the freezing Finland! I have just bought a 2001 Tahoe with 5.3l engine. The orginal airbox seems to have a low flow rate. So I think that it would be smart to swap that orginal box to performance intake like this

But there is a problem. I have been told that the oil which came from the performance filter to the mass airflow sensor, can destroy them. Is this true? Because I would like to upgrade that airbox to the performance intake but i don`t want to buy new airflow sensor every month!

Thanks

And sorry for my bad english.

The only way this is going to happen is if you over oil it. Light spary and you should have no problems.

I'd have to agree with FCO above. Don't apply too much oil when you re-oil them and you'll be ok. There is also a new performance dry filter that doesn't need to be oiled.

Thanks for those good answers. I think that this intake would be the best for me? At least it is Dryflow model. Does anybody have any experiences about that AEM intake?

Thanks again

I've never heard of it destroying the MAF but if it IS over oiled it will throw a code.....what I've done to correct this issue is clean the contacts on the MAF will a good electrical contact cleaner or even rubbing alcohol.

It assists in trapping the smaller particles in the filter media, the new synthetics do not require oil because of the advancement in small particle filtration.

They sell a special cleaner for MAFS wires. Just don't touch them with anything like a q-tip when you clean them because they are fragile.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do you want to oil a filter?:skep:

You usually don't come across it unless you are dealing with those "reusable" air filters like K&N, where you clean and oil it periodically instead of just replacing the air filter like you normally would.
